EMCCAN past to present 2021 – 2023
Introducing our new CEO – Donna Briscoe Greene.
Coming out of lockdown was and introducing a new CEO has been the greatest challenge EMCCAN has had to face to date. Yet, we have improved our offer. Built new partnerships and received the SME’s Midlands Enterprise Award 2023 for Best carnival arts promotion organisation in the East Midlands.

Ensuring further partnerships with educational establishments, Carnival artists remained in employment. Completing projects with the secured funding from Paul Hamlyn Foundation meant we were able to build new foundations with young people in Caribbean Carnival culture and traditions.
Through Artistic excellence.
EMCCAN supported the creative development and launch of Mansfield’s first ever carnival in their city in 2023. Confirming EMCCAN’s artistic excellence through it’s Carnival parades, cross sector organisation, artistic and strategic development and tours. Whilst working alongside artists, troupe leaders and other professionals to create the very best carnival art Mansfield has seen to date.
Fundraising surgeries
Will continue to hold Quarterly fund-raising Surgeries. In association with the Arts Council. To help artists and troupe Leaders. Realise their ambition for carnival. The coming and following year. Each person has the opportunity to meet with them, comes chief executive Donna Briscoe Green. Following the surgery. And. MKM will continue to act as a mentor throughout delivery of grants for the arts. Although ultimate responsibility lies with the grant applicant.

EMCCAN wants to congratulate. The regional artists who have received grants from ACE.
This year particularly EMCCAN would like to thank Maria Slack, from Mansfield. Who has been in receipt of our support, and received funding from ACE consecutively for two years. Building her troupe, her organisation, and her brand.
Queen Show
Leicester carnival hosted the. 11th annual Carnival Queen Competition in 2023 at the Highgate Community Centre. Contestants from Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton competed for the regional prize. Following a Lightning Carnival arts performance on the stage. In the first half by pulse Dance troupe, Performers K Soul and Zim Reggae Artist Mc Inity
We’re excited to announce the Queen Show 2024 returns to Nottingham, and Nottingham Carnival are delighted to host the 12th annual Regional Carnival Queen Show. Held in the unique space The Albert Hall Conference Centre, Nottingham on June 29th, 2024. Performances on the night will be by Steel pan orchestra RASPO and The UK’s Biggest Soca Artist Triniboi Joocie Tickets are available on Event Brite. Now.
The showcase of Caribbean cultural traditions
J’Ouvert to Last Lap our very first showcase was held at the Royal Albert Conference Centre, it was a fantastic event. With over 100 people attending and social media feedback was excellent. It highlighted some of the traditions from various Caribbean countries. Including short synopsis from cultural relics such as jab jab, mocha jumbie’s, acoustic steel pan drums and cultural dance audiences were drawn in to party with us.
Young Voices Gathering ‘23
Held in Nottingham Young People were introduced to some real Carnival Advocacy. They spent their day hearing from the UK’s top carnival artists who spoke about their life and achievements. Troupe leaders gave further insight about their journeys, the influences of Caribbean carnival, and its contribution to their lives. Further idea’s were discussed in workshops and the young people explored what they may be able to achieve through creative careers and the touring opportunities and what that looks to them. The day ending with pan music and the history of the steel drum and how the instrument can be used to celebrate the people who came, via Carnival!
